Twins from Universal Publishing

An interesting practice used by some publishers was to take the cover art from one book and "recycle" it for use on another.

In this section, you'll see instances in which magazine art was also used for paperback cover illustration. Keep in mind that early paperback publishing houses were usually offshoots of pulp magazine empires. Some of these magazine images were taken from the book Pulp Art Masters: Belarski, by John Gunnison.

Many thanks to Bob Gaines, whose eagle-eye has spotted many of these books just from browsing the BookScans web site.

The last "twin" in this section is a selfish effort on my part to identify a piece of original cover art I've obtained. The Universal Publishing Company printed under various labels, including Uni, Royal Giant, Intimate, Stallion, Beacon and Softcover Library. Early on, they often recycled their artwork after altering the original paintings.
